Hanoi is a really easy trip from Hong Kong - a romantic weekend get away.
In Vietnam one finds a lot of Americans going to war museums and the likes, possibly looking to better understand what happened in the Vietnam wars. But it seems obvious what happened in these wars: a lot of people get killed. Like the NanJing war memorial, the Hanoi museum of fine art is a reminder of that. I like both. They are un-politicized and to the point. Whatever were the aspirations of the Americans, French and Chinese in Vietnam ... these museums are good reminders that killing people is not such good idea ... and now we find the worst of communism (=poverty) and capitalism (=unchecked environmental destruction) active in Vietnam.
What we find most attractive are the areas still beautiful and the Vietnamese who are warm and friendly. Vietnam is stlll a beautiful country Daisy and I would like to further explore.
